I have previously reported the 2019 vintage here: Philippe Colin Chassagne Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru 2019 versus Chassagne Montrachet La Maltrioe 1er Cru 2019 – Fine Wines SG, so today my writing is to focus on the 2020 vintage. My previous notes on the 2019 was spot on, and there’s no amendments to make on my tasting notes. 2020 is vastly different from 2019, in fact it’s so huge that when I drink it blind, I cannot not tell it’s coming from the same plot! I’d say 2019 is with really heavy makeup, with heavy oak play, totally masks the character of Les Vergers; Whereas 2020 is showing its true character, very transparent, lively and refreshing, and most importantly, no heavy makeup. There are some oak play in 2020, but definitely not overdone like 2019. Yearly production of approximately 1,200 bottles, definitely highly recommended to try out the 2020 vintage of Les Vergers, definitely showing Philippe Colin’s winemaking style has reached new peak! I strongly recommend 2020 amongst the two vintages.
